By the Lakeshore

'By the Lakeshore' oil on canvas - 30 x 36"
Another painting in my bike path series.  This finally came together this morning, when I had an idea to add the little dog.  For some reason adding a happy running dog gave purpose to the cyclist riding along... it has also immeasurably lifted the mood of the piece...a far cry from the (very green and sinister looking)block in a few posts back.  It's funny...one figure adds life, but two creates a relationship...I think that invites the viewer to join in the fun.

  3. Sally, where is your bike path located? It sounds and looks lovely! You paint the scene with such charm and a strong sense of time and place, by the colors that you use so effectively. I love that shadow coming toward me and inviting me to the bike path!

  4. The dog adds so much joy to the painting - the difference is amazing! I also love the thistles just waiting to be blown. A gorgeous addition to your series Sally!

  6. hi Katherine,
i took inspiration from a path that runs along the Lake Ontario waterfront in Kingston...and also from a morning in May when I noticed the morning sun highlighting the dandelion clocks in a field. thanks for your nice comment.

  7. I love the feeling this painting evokes. So peaceful and warm. I love the light of the little poofies (are they dandelions?) in the shadows. Beautifully done!

And thank you so much for your very kind comments, I so appreciate them.

  8. Thank you Suzanne, it took a long time for me to get to the point where I was getting the right feeling in this painting, so when it does come together it's very satisfying. Thanks for your comment.
